Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the benefits of football scholarships and volunteering for the community. First family he is the youngest of the nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon raised on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. In football, he was with his three brothers for Oklahoma. All three of them were All-Americans. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. During his three years as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma The Sooners recorded a 32-1-1 record and won two national titles. As a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon received a scholarship for the third season in 1975. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week of volunteer time in the college. After college, he moved in Tampa and played nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro three times. He then began his professional career. In 1988, he worked as an Account Relations Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed by the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that, in 1982, The Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of ten outstanding young people across the country. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds in the time he played football at college. He was a captain in 1975. was on the team. squad. In 1993 he was appointed as associate director at the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame by the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by The Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. The award was presented by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
